Winter in  Our City  brings chilly temperatures, snow, and the excitement of the holiday season. It’s a wonderful time of year — but it also comes with challenges that require a little extra caution. Our Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments have gathered a few important reminders to help everyone stay safe and prepared during the colder months.

When snow or ice is in the forecast, plan ahead. Keep driveways and sidewalks clear, and use salt or sand to prevent slips and falls. If you must drive, allow extra time to reach your destination, slow down on icy roads, and leave extra space between vehicles. Always clear snow from your headlights, taillights, and windows before hitting the road.

Inside your home, stay warm safely. Never use an oven or outdoor grill for heating, and keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn. Make sure smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly — a few minutes of preparation can save lives.
